The Insanity DLC for Destiny 2 includes a new story mission and co-op mode, but there’s not much to it. The game has been criticized for its lack of content since launch with gamers seeking more from their next sequel. What if Bungie had held off on releasing the DLC until they could make something bigger?
Robby is obsessed with video games. When he isn’t playing them, he is either talking about them on social media or persuading others to take up a controller. He’s on the internet so often that he could nearly… Continue reading
- Ubisoft’s enormous blockbuster shooter Far Cry 6 is out now, and Insanity is the first large DLC installment.
- You take on the role of Vaas from Far Cry 3 and strive to get out of his thoughts.
- It’s a roguelike first-person shooter in which you repeat the same level over and over.
Insanity is Far Cry 6’s first major DLC release. It takes a completely different approach from the main game and plays more like a roguelike: repeating the same level while maintaining some type of advancement to make each subsequent run marginally easier.
When you think about it, this is the ideal genre for a Vaas-themed game. You may remember his famous Far Cry 3 quote: “Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is?” The same f*cking thing is happening with Insanity… expecting… sh*t to change… again and over…
Did I ever explain you what insanity means? Vaas –
Insanity is defined as a state of mind in which a person is unable to
The game has five mental levels, each with increasing difficulty, and even the first one will be a problem since the opponent AI seems to have been upgraded since the original game: foes can identify you from farther out and shot with lethal precision.
While you lose a lot when you die, you do get to retain a few permanent improvements like weapon enhancements and personal attributes like a higher health bar or more money.
Weapon improvements are on the left, while personal enhancements are on the right.
Anything else, including any of the three dagger pieces Citra, your sister/lover, needs you to collect in order to leave Vaas’ mind and that you may have acquired on your previous run, is lost when you die. As a result, death is very demotivating, so do your best to remain alive.
How to Get Around
Roguelikes often have randomly generated levels to keep you on your toes, but Far Cry 6: Insanity only has one map layout, and spots you’ve visited are remembered and marked on the map.
While the main Far Cry 6 experience allowed players to travel quickly and drop in with a wingsuit and a parachute, Insanity requires you to walk the whole trip. Fortunately, the map isn’t too big, and there are a few doors that will transfer you throughout the level.
I’m going to knock on your door!
As previously said, you’ll need to locate three dispersed bits of Citra’s sword, each of which will be a significant task. Upgrade Vaas’ stats and conquer the challenges that offer you a 1UP to better prepare yourself, but even that won’t be simple.
On the map, you’ll also discover different weapon challenges that will reward you with a new weapon after you’ve defeated a certain number of foes. The disadvantage is that these weapons are also lost when you die, although you may purchase them from the Safe Zone at the start if you wish.
It’s more enjoyable to have a gun.
A journey inside Vaas’ psyche
The DLC picks up just after Vaas falls to Jason Brody, Far Cry 6’s protagonist. While he certainly dies in that confrontation, it’s as if we’re in limbo, and Vaas must come to grips with the events in his past that shaped him into the charming crook he is.
The way this is narrated is brilliant, with scenes like visiting a hotel and having to rebuild a memory from his prior life in each room. The settings are overblown and seem just gorgeous since we’re not quite in the world of reality. The magical components give each site a unique vibe, and finding them is practically a pleasure in and of itself.
I’m looking at you!
Vaas, played by Michael Mando, is without a doubt the genuine star of Far Cry 6: Insanity. Throughout the game, he speaks to himself and makes amusing remarks such as whoops, my hand slipped after executing a takedown on adversaries or admiring his own writing when he rediscovers a letter he previously sent to Citra.
He makes light of the situation with a quick High five while confronting a hill covered in blood with arms coming out of the dirt like the undead are going to walk the earth again.
A big thumbs up!
Elements at random
As I previously said, the random components in roguelikes are normally what keep each new run interesting, but they aren’t present in Far Cry 6: Insanity, thus it may be difficult to inspire yourself to try for the higher mental levels after winning the game once. There is no need to repeat this material outside of the achievements and few equipment you obtain to use in the main game, which is possibly the worst flaw.
Only the hearts you discover dropped by foes, in chests all across the landscape, or when you shoot rare golden rodents change your gameplay. These hearts provide benefits such as quicker reloading, more ammunition dropped by foes, and more Cash from takedowns, to mention a few.
Ca-ching!
How long does it take to beat and finish the game?
How long does the Insanity DLC take to complete? It should take roughly 2 hours to complete the game and watch the credits roll, not considering all the times you may have died attempting to complete the episode.
There is a substantial amount of work to be done.
However, completing the DLC in its entirety, including obtaining all achievements, will need many playthroughs. There are a variety of extra tasks, such as achieving a specified score, completing Mind Level 5, or locating all of the bobbleheads.
If you’re a completionist, there’s another one for entirely upgrading Vaas and his weapon loadout, so be prepared to slog it out.
What’s the best way to get the Insanity DLC episode?
It’s strange that I even have to include this in the review, but it seems like many people are having trouble playing the DLC, even if they already possess it thanks to the Season Pass.
The DLC may be started from the main menu or from any of the TVs at one of the various Home Base locations in the original game, but it will not begin the content’s download. By clicking it, the message will change from “you already possess this” to “coming soon.” So, how can you get your hands on the DLC?
It is downloaded by you. You’ll have to actively look for the DLC episode in the shop for the platform you’re playing on, and you won’t be able to play until it’s completely installed. It’s understandable, however the in-game choices don’t enable you to do so.
Part of the problem is locating the game.
Far Cry 6: Insanity: Final Thoughts
Pros A roguelike setting is ideal for Vaas and his concept of madness. The game has some great fascinating settings and looks beautiful. It’s difficult, but each fresh run makes it easier. Cons There aren’t enough random factors in the episode to make you want to revisit it once you’ve completed it. When you’re accustomed to the main game’s travel choices, walking around might seem a little sluggish.
4 out of 5 stars
Far Cry 6: Insanity is an excellent example of well-executed DLC. It provides a whole different gaming experience in a fantastic-looking world that isn’t concerned with being anchored in reality. You’ll go to a couple incredible-looking locations, and Vaas will be narrating the whole trip with witty quips and jabs. This DLC episode only serves to solidify his status as the finest Far Cry antagonist of all time.
